Exercise Oncology

Exercise following cancer diagnosis continues to establish itself as an important part of cancer treatment. Although it may be the last thing you feel like doing, research continues to show that exercise can, when prescribed correctly, result in fewer and less severe treatment related side effects as well as improved quality of life. It is the role of an Exercise Physiologist to work with you to find the right “dose” of exercise to assist you in using exercise as a medicine. Exercise Physiologists are trained to understand the diagnosis and staging as well as the symptoms and side effects of cancer and cancer treatments and how this may influence your ability to exercise. At SAEXP we pride ourselves in creating a supportive and comfortable environment to help restore confidence whilst helping you achieve a healthier, better quality of life.

Benefits of exercising during your cancer treatment include:

  • Fewer and less severe treatment related side effects
  • Improved treatment completion rates
  • Lower relative risk of cancer recurrence
  • improved heart function and reduced risk of heart disease
  • Improves bone health, reduced chance of developing osteoporosis
  • Reduced cancer-related tiredness and fatigue
  • Improved mental health and wellbeing
  • Reduced increase in body fat
  • Reduced nausea for some people on chemotherapy
